Hummingbirds of the Caribbean

This fiber art work is created from hand-dyed and hand-printed cottons and vintage silk brocades.   

The inspiration for Hummingbirds of the Caribbean came from a trip to the Commonwealth of Dominica. As I researched the exotic tropical hummingbirds and the plants they rely on for nectar, I learned that the 2017 hurricanes (Irma, Maria and Harvey) did extensive damage to the islands’ natural flora. Islanders are encouraged to replant native species to protect the well-being of native birds and animals.
